Vasili Shipilov, an Orthodox prisoner of conscience who was previously thought to have been sent to an old people’s home, is reported to be still in a psychiatric hospital in the Krasnoyarsk region. Shipilov, 65, was first tried in 1939 for his religious activities and sentenced to ten years deprivation of freedom. He served the full term and was released in 1949. In 1950, however, he was rearrested and placed by court order in psychiatric hospital on the basis of his religious convictions. His friends ask for prayer and Western support on his behalf.
