Metropolitan Vladimir of St Petersburg (Moscow Patriarchate), in a sermon at the St. John of Kronstadt convent, declared himself to be in favor of the Moscow Patriarchate adopting the new calendar. This provoked such indignation among the faithful that one could hear shouts of "Heretic!" "Anathema!" and the abbess of the convent forbade the choir to sing "Ispolla eti despota" for the metropolitan It was some time before the commotion calmed down. The church procession was cancelled and Metropolitan Vladimir left under the angry scowls of the faithful.
