Keston reports that nun Valeriya Makeyeva has been transferred from the Kazan Special Psychiatric Hospital to Moscow Psychiatric Hospital No. 5. She was tried in April 1979 (see “Orthodox America” No. 5-6) on charges of engaging in illegal production of handicrafts (she embroidered monastic belts with words from Psalm 90: “He that dwelleth in the help of the Most High… “) and sentenced to indefinite confinement in a psychiatric hospital as “criminally insane”. She is already reported to be partially paralyzed as a result of forcible injection of drugs. Her current address is: […]

News has finally reached the West concerning the whereabouts of Fr. Gleb Yakunin who was tried in August of last year and sentenced to 5 years strict regime camp followed by 5 years exile on charges of “anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda” (see “Orthodox America” No.4). His wife was allowed to see him in April. He is very thin and is having health problems due  to high blood pressure. He has not been assigned to one specific kind of work in the camp, but is constantly moved from task to task. His hair and beard have been shaved off. Fr. Gleb’s address is: […]
